Far Post Soccer Club sponsored an indoor soccer tournament, New Year’s 8v8 Tourney, to honor Stefan Pierson. The event was well receive by the soccer community as evidenced by the number of teams that signed up quickly to participate the the event. The money raised was donated to the Vermont Cancer Center in Stefan’s name. Below is an excerpt from the Far Post Web site as to the purpose and meaning of the tournament.
“This is the first year that Far Post has held this tournament, and the sole purpose for this event is to raise money in honor of Stefan Pierson, a former Far Post player who passed away this fall. Stefan touched so many lives in so many ways. He played soccer the way he lived his life – with passion, grace, dignity and respect. Far Post decided to make this event a fundraiser for a charitable cause to honor Stefan, so we will be working with the Vermont Cancer Center. We truly appreciate everyone’s participation in this event, and we are happy to announce that we are COMPLETELY full. We ask that all players, coaches and spectators take a moment to understand why we are playing and simply ask to honor Stefan in their own special way. While we want players to play hard and to be competitive, we are also asking everyone to play with grace, dignity and respect.”
