The Annual Stefan Pierson Memorial Soccer Tournament is held in honor of Stefan Pierson who passed away at the age of 22 after battling bone cancer for four years. As a four year varsity player, soccer was one of Stefan’s many passions. Our foundation, Conquer The Day, was founded to help other young adults battling cancer continue to pursue their passions by overcoming the physical limitations of cancer; and get a chance to conquer each day. The funds raised by this event will go directly to supporting our mission: to provide support to young Vermont adults, between the ages of 18-25, who are battling cancer, to give them the opportunity to conquer the day, living life to the fullest and positively impacting those around them.

From first hand experience, we know that these young adults facing cancer are just starting out their life’s journey with limited resources, a scary road ahead, yet dreams for a lifetime. Our mission is to help them continue with their passions or pursue their dreams by funding adaptive equipment, allowing them to learn new skills, or enjoy the trip of a lifetime. No longer eligible for Make-A-Wish, this demographic is under-served by charitable organizations; hence, our desire to honor Stefan’s life and make a difference in the lives of others.

After a successful inaugural year we are excited to be back with a tournament for all age groups that provides a full day of fun and challenging play on the pitch, all while supporting a worthy cause. Teams are invited to submit names of loved one(s) affected by cancer and also play in their honor.

Teams compete against each other in matches of 6v6

The soccer tournament is held at the University of Vermont Athletic Complex, Burlington Vermont. We will offer competitive games for age groups U10/12, U14/16, and Adult Coed. We will also offer the 6v6 format format for Adult Coed Teams for players who want to get out on the pitch in less competitive, fun-filled games.  Groupings and divisions will be determined by number of teams registering in each bracket. The capstone is the invitational alumni games where Metro Division I teams battle on Virtue field for bragging rights! The final alumni game is held under the lights and we anticipate that spectators will come and support their alumni teams both by wearing their schools colors as well as by donating to our foundation in support of their alumni team.

Our mission for the day is to have fun, remember and honor those whose lives have been impacted by cancer, and raise money to help young adults battling cancer.
