Hi. I’m glad that you made your way to our web site. We are very excited to be announcing our foundation in honor of our son, Stefan. The sadness and pain of missing him will not go away, but continuing his generous spirit by starting a foundation to help others has made the past few months bearable. So with many thanks to Stefan’s friends and family, I am honored to welcome our foundation: Conquer The Day – The Stefan Pierson Foundation. Our Mission is to provide support to young adults (ages 18 – 25+) living with cancer overcome the physical limitations that cancer has dealt them, a chance to conquer the day and live their life to the fullest.
The genesis of our foundation was the crowd-source funded trip to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, initiated by a classmate, Alex Saunders. You can read more about the trip here. Even though Stefan had just learned a week earlier that the cancer had returned, the joy and gratitude he felt to be experiencing Brazil and the soccer matches could be felt over the phone as he described his day. The support that he received from so many, made Stefan feel loved by his family, friends, and wide-spread community. It was an experience and feeling that Stefan talked about frequently in the last year. To help others, like Stefan, experience outreach from their community and see the smiles on their faces, will help me remember Stefan’s contagious smile. And I think Stefan will be smiling as well.
Thanks for you interest in our foundation. I will be writing from time to time, but I would like to introduce our regular blog editor – Alex Saunders. Alex, the classmate mentioned above, currently lives in Boston and works at Massachusetts General Hospital as a Clinical Research Coordinator. She will write about a mix of topics: what our foundation is doing, who we are supporting through our efforts, and helping us remember Stefan.
I welcome you all to our new community. I hope see many familiar faces at our upcoming events and hope to meet some new faces as well.
